Become an NCLL Host Family
Do you a have a spare room? And internet access? If so, would you be
interested in offering home-stay placements for international students
and professionals?
‘My children all enjoy having people from China stay with us. They've
learned some simple words and my daughter can even sing Frère Jacques in
Chinese!’
Who will be coming and for how long?
At NCLL we offer a wide range of courses ranging in length from two weeks to six months to students, teachers and other professionals from all over the world:
- Three-month courses for secondary teachers of English from China
- Three-month courses for Chinese university administrators
- Six-month courses for Chinese advanced teachers
- Two-week courses for female students from Tsuda College, Japan
- Two-week courses for students from Monmouth College, Illinois.
The levels of English of the non-native speakers range from basic to advanced but all benefit from living in a friendly home environment where they can improve their language skills and experience British culture at first hand.
For the Chinese courses, our hosts provide bed and breakfast and allow their guests the use of the kitchen to make their evening meal.
For the shorter stay Japanese and US courses, hosts also provide an evening meal.
What we will pay you
- Current rates: £14 per person a night for bed and breakfast; £17 a night for bed, breakfast and evening meal.
Other benefits
We pay very competitive rates, something not to be sniffed at these days, but there are other considerations too:
- Hosting one of our participants is not at all like having a teenage exchange student. Chinese participants are mature adults who take responsibility for themselves. Japanese and American students are also very independent.
- This is a fantastic opportunity to bring the wider world into your home and learn from other people at the same time as they learn from you.
What our host families say
‘We have had people staying in our home for several years now... We like learning about Chinese culture and sharing British culture. We feel we have made some wonderful friends...’
‘Last summer we went to China and we were lucky enough to visit several of the people who had stayed with us.’
